Giant arrow
This feature draws attention to the importance of water in agriculture, both in the past and in the future.
The form of a giant arrow has been created here, as though it is partially embedded in the clay band of ground from which the spring line emerges. The arrow's 'feathers' have been lined with dry stone walling which allows the spring water to trickle through and run down into the hollowed out elm trunk which forms the arrow shaft. The water finally collects in a raised pool, around which visitors may sit whilst contemplating issues of drought, irrigation, wetlands and flooding which will be discussed in accompanying information boards and leaflets.
As part of the series of land art features, the focus on water is particularly significant as drought and, conversely, flooding are issues that are most likely to affect agriculture in the future. |
