Overview of Thistledown's plans

When Thistledown reaches completion, we believe it will be one of the most exciting and beautiful environmental centres this country has to offer.

Thistledown is set in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside. It is an organically managed farm that includes over seventy acres of glorious Cotswold landscape with spectacular valley views, lost hay meadows and tranquil woodland glades.

Offering visitors the experience of many natural environments, wildlife, historical features, sculpture, art and rural crafts, Thistledown has been carefully and sensitively designed to bring the secrets of the countryside to life.

Themed land art and sculpture trails will lead visitors through the rare limestone grassland, rich in diverse flora and fauna. Woodland walks under the canopy of ancient woodland - together with hides and interactive centres utilising the latest technology - will enable observation of the local wildlife, including night time activity.

Reconstructions of our early ancestors’ dwellings will attract historical interest and trace the changing relationship man has had with the land, whilst modern renewable building materials and techniques will be explored to examine the construction issues of the future.

Visitors of all ages will want to come to Thistledown to have fun, enjoy the countryside in a new and exciting way, and learn from the visually stimulating and interactive nature of the features on offer. In addition, a themed calendar of events and education activities will be planned for added interest, ensuring that visitors will want to return time after time.
